This place is a staple for this town! They actually bring people in from NC and distant areas of South Carolina. We live in Arizona now, and whenever we are near, we make a point to come back. They open at 6 and close at 9 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. They have been in business since the 70's. I believe with the original owners. A lot of the foundational materials are the original. Well maintained though. If you plan on coming early, you need to make reservations. You actually need to have a reservation up until about 2000 if you are bothered by waiting. This is a family owned and operated business. Everyone is friendly and works hard to make sure you have a great experience. They have little turnover in the staff too. I've been seeing the same faces for 20 years. The waitresses are hustling and our drinks never came close to empty. Everything runs so smoothly. It's obvious that the back of the restaurant is working as hard as the front. Janelle was our waitress tonight and she's phenomenal. Here's what makes this place irresistible. Their steaks are marinated and cooked to perfection every time on a sizzling hot plate. They cook it a little less than requested because your steak continues to cook while you eat. I like to cut up my steak and roll it around on the steering plate. But that baked potatoes. This is what I dream about when I'm gone. They have a sour cream and butter mixture that is out of this world. It is so good, and they know it, that very few people know the recipe and they bring it in already mixed so that no one can truly figure it out.
Love the pork chops . Always a packed house, but never more than a few minutes wait . Salad bar . Friendly staff . What more can you ask for ?
I have been coming to Carolina for many years now. I'm actually embarrassed that this is my first time leaving a review! I'm even more embarrassed that I never have pictures because I eat everything up so quickly, lol. They have the absolute best steaks in the county. I have never had one that wasn't seasoned perfectly or cooked accurately. The salad bar is very basic, but it's filling. It's definitely a nice start to the meal. The baked potato with sour cream is to die for! Now hear me out. The sour cream is seasoned with an onion & chive mixture that just brings out all kinds of flavors. I used it on top of my steak too! I can only recommend Carolina for dinner service because I hadn't had their lunch, but if its anything like their steaks, I'm certain you won't be disappointed!
I have eaten the lunch buffet here several times and I highly recommend it. This last time I came here for the steak dinner and was more than presently surprised! The salad bar was fresh with nice options. I had a side baked potato that was cooked perfectly. However; the steak was exceptional! I'm talking on par with big city steak house steaks! It was a thick cut cooked perfectly. It was very tender and with the perfect amount of marbling. Great country cooking-even better steak!
The best stake I have had in a long time. I came across this place using Google maps trying to find a statehouse. I am so glad I found Carolina Restaurant and Stake House. I will definitely be back. I'm gonna be a regular customer. It's well worth the drive from Darlington to Chesterfield.
